What is Composition

Composition
  1. What is composition? The arrangement of visual elements within the frame of a photograph.
  2. Why is it important to understand and utilize composition in photography? It is important to understand composition and utilize it in photography because you need all the elements working together to get a good photograph.
  3. Describe aspects of a "snapshot". A snapshot is a casual record of some event or person or object. A snapshot is just a memory.
  4. Describe aspects of a "photograph". A photograph is an artistic interpretation of an event or person or object. Its purpose is to tell the viewer something about the subject. In a photograph all its elements must be selected and arranged to work together toward some unified effect. A photograph requires paying attention to every detail.

Camera Basics Quiz B

3.
I achieved this scenario by putting the ISO as high as it can go which is 6400. When you put the ISO all the way up it gives the photo a grainy look.
3.
I achieved this photo by creating a large depth of field and to do that i had to put the f stop all the way up because at f 22.0 it makes a clear focus and a large depth of field.
2.
To create this picture i had to put the shutter speed low so that it created the blur when she ran across the room.
4.
To create this picture I put the camera on self timer on and put the f stop low at 4.0 to create the small depth of field.

SUMMARY
Throughout this unit I have learned so many new things. Before i took this class i had no idea how the shutter speed, ISO, and aperture effected the picture, but now I do. I have learned that the aperture is the size of the opening in the lens when a picture is taken. A low aperture allows more light to enter, makes a small depth of field, creates blur, and separates the subject from the background. The shutter speed is the amount of time that the shutter is open. A slow shutter speed makes less light and creates a blur movement. A fast shutter speed lets less light in and makes a freeze movement. The ISO is the measure of a digital camera sensor's sensitivity to the light. A high ISO makes the picture look grainy but a low ISO looks the picture look smooth. Also we learned about white balance and the exposure triangle. White balance has many different types there is auto, daylight, shaded, cloudy, florescent, tungsten, flash, and custom white balance. White Balance is the camera setting that adjusts for lighting in order to make objects appear white in photos. By adjusting the white balance setting on your camera you alter the light to produce the most accurate colors in the digital image. So it is important to set your white balance so you can get a balance of the colors depending on your environment. I also learned about the exposure triangle and that consists of ISO, shutter speed, and aperture. When you adjust one component of the exposure triangle you also have to adjust the others to get a good photo. I have learned so much new information throughout this unit.

ISO

Low ISO: 100
                                                                      High ISO: 1600

  1. What is ISO: The measure of a digital camera sensor's sensitivity to light.
  2. How does ISO work both technically (in camera) and visually (in photo). Visually the iso effects how grainy the photo is but technically the higher ISO you have a grainy picture but with a low ISO it is clear and soft looking.
  3. What is relationship to the exposure triangle? When you move the ISO you also have to adjust the shutter speed and aperture to have a good photo.

Understanding shutter speeds

Slow shutter speed

Fast shutter speed
  1. What is shutter speed? The length of time that image sensor/ film is exposed to light.
  2. How does shutter speed works technically (in camera) and visually (in photo). The main effect on higher shutter speeds is that the individual frames appear sharper due to the motion blur. motion blur occurs when the subject moves within the frame while the shutter is open. Visually the faster shutter speeds appear clearer then the slow shutter speed.
  3. What is the relationship to the exposure triangle? There are 3 parts to the exposure triangle and those are aperture, ISO, and shutter speed. So when one is changed the other 2 have to be adjusted to get a good photo.

Understanding White Balance

Auto

Daylight

Cloudy

Tungsten

Fluorescent

Shade

  1. What is white balance? White Balance is the camera setting that adjusts for lighting in order to make objects appear white in photos.
  2. Why is it important to set you white balance? By adjusting the white balance setting on your camera you alter the light to produce the most accurate colors in the digital image. So it is important to set your white balance so you can get a balance of the colors depending on your environment.
